Third Award Winning Apprentice with McGill

McGill are delighted to announce that another of their apprentices has won an award for their 1st year work.

Ross McDonald, an adult apprentice joiner with McGill, has been chosen as Dundee College first year joinery apprentice of the year.  The winner is chosen by the lecturer and Ross came first out of 17 classmates.

His name will now join previous winners on the Glenalmond Timber Shield which will be presented to him at an awards ceremony on 24 June 2014.

Ross was brought in as a labourer and excelled on site catching the attention of his foremen before seeking the opportunity to become an apprentice joiner.

 Gus Anderson, Ross’s mentor commented:

Ross came to McGill via the Hillcrest Toolbox Project working as a Joiners Assistant/Labourer. Ross immediately showed a great willingness to learn & it was very clear from the start that Ross had the skills to advance his way to an Apprenticeship with the company, which was duly offered.  Ross continues to impress & is a great influence on younger Apprentices on site. His college reports are very positive & he should be proud of his achievements to date. Ross’s progress through his Apprenticeship will in time prove him to be a valuable asset to McGill’s workforce.

Ross now goes forward to the regional finals along with William Ritchie and Steven Cooney who have won plumbing and electrical apprenticeship awards respectively.
