McGill Recruit Twenty Apprentices

McGill have recruited 20 Apprentices in 2013 as part of their ongoing training programme.

All are aged between 16 and 24 and includes 8 Electricians, 4 Plumbers, 3 Joiners, 1 Painter and 2 Heating Engineers who will be working across the Residential, Mechanical & Electrical, Property Services and Small Contracts divisions. The majority will be attending Dundee College with two attending Stow College in Glasgow.

All the Apprentices started on the 9 August with College start dates of 26 August & 30 September 2013.

Three of the individuals awarded Apprenticeships were on McGill’s Pre-Apprenticeship Evaluation Scheme last year. This programme was established to assist those who are not sure which trade will suit them and they are given a year to work on site and gain experience before committing to an Apprenticeship.

The twenty Apprentices include two individuals who have joined the Pre-Apprenticeship Evaluation Scheme for this year with the aim of them being awarded Apprenticeships in the 2014 intake.

One individual awarded an apprenticeship has worked for McGill for a number of years as a labourer and now has the opportunity to train as a plumber showing McGill’s commitment to training and up-skilling their employees. Another is an Adult Apprentice Joiner recruited through the CITB scheme demonstrating that there are still opportunities available for those out with the 16-19 age group.

 Stanley McGill, Managing Director, commented,

Recruiting and training high quality apprentices is extremely important to securing the future of our industry. We are delighted to be able to offer young people long term career opportunities particularly in today’s economic climate.

Almost 300 young people applied for Apprenticeships with us. The calibre of applications was extremely high so these 20 successful candidates have done extremely well to win places with us. We wish them the best of luck for their apprenticeship years and their future careers.

McGill have been recruiting apprentices for over 27 years and in that time over 200 young people have successfully completed apprenticeships with them.
