McGill Mentor Craigie High School to the Scottish Final of the Engineering Development Trust Go4Set Awards
Craigie High School, mentored by McGill reached the Scottish Final of the Engineering Development Trust Go4SET Awards in Glasgow on Tuesday 15 May at Glasgow City Chambers.
The team of five pupils aged between 12 and 13 won their regional Dundee & Angus Final at the Dalhousie Building of the University of Dundee last December with their project on "Energy and Your School". Mentored by Juliet McGill, Marketing Director, the team investigated their school's energy usage and devised proposals and cost saving methods of reducing the energy used and ways to make it cheaper.
Juliet spent one hour per week for 10 weeks helping them prepare their project and took them on site visits to our Head Office in Dundee, to see a Biomass Boiler in action at the recently completed Hillcrest Group Headquarters and to the construction site for the new build Swimming Pool at East Marketgait, Dundee.
The project outcomes were evaluated at the celebration and assessment day in December 2012 where the teams were required to display and present their solutions and were interviewed by a panel of judges.
This is the second year we have particiapted in the project. In December 2011 Colin Low, Operations Director (M&E), mentored Braeview Academy who won the Student Choice Award for the best proposal for Biomass Fuelled Renewable Electricity & Heat Pump for their School.
Well done Craigie High School! Hopefully we will see some budding young apprentices and engineers in a few years time.
