The £1.6m refurbishment of Brington Place and Baluniefield Sheltered Housing Complexes was a Partnering Contract with Dundee City Council. The project was identified as being particularly complicated from the outset due to the residents being of an elderly nature and requiring varying assistance having special needs.
Due to the complexity of the contract, the client entered into a Partnership with McGill at an early stage. McGill identified that precise planning would be key to the successful delivery of the contract and consequently a number of design liaison meetings were held in advance of the commencement of work on site.
It was agreed that due to the tenants’ special needs it was best to relocate them into alternative accommodation during the works. However, it was also identified that if these tenants were in temporary accommodation for a long period of time, they may find it difficult to adapt back to their original surroundings. Consequently it was agreed that the contract would be undertaken in 13 weeks.
The project was delivered within budget and within the timescale required.
Work included new kitchens and bathrooms, central heating, solar collectors, energy efficient lighting, fire alarms, warden call, access control and CCTV systems, fire sprinkler system, insulation of new suspended ceilings, insulation of the attic and complete redecoration on completion
