McGill deliver nearly 1000 beds for students across Scotland
Last weekend was a busy time for McGill’s M&E Teams in Edinburgh and Glasgow as they handed over two significant student accommodation projects in time for the new academic year commencing.
McGill successfully completed the project a 273 bed student accommodation facility at Murano Place, Edinburgh for Ogilvie Construction and 703 bed student accommodation facility at Beith Street, Glasgow for George Downing Construction Ltd.
With 976 students all moving into their new accommodation over a single weekend it was a challenge for everyone involved in the projects making sure all 976 rooms and communal areas were ready for the students to settle in.
The M&E Teams were supported by McGill’s in-house Fire & Security division who successfully completed both projects alongside the M&E division.
Colin Low, Managing Director, commented:
These were challenging projects for our teams having to complete so many units simultaneously.
These fast track projects, with a combined value of £5.3M, were a challenge to deliver in 36 weeks. Both George Downing Construction and Ogilvie Construction are new clients in this market sector for us and with almost 1000 students arriving in one weekend successful completion was imperative. I am delighted with the teams’ performance and I hope this leads to further work from these key clients.
