This project was a traditional contract awarded by BAM Construction to carry out the M&E Building Services work for the new build library extension at the University of Dundee.

The works involved breaking into the existing Main Campus HTHW ring to provide the heat source and the installation of a new main switchboard to provide power to serve the extension. We installed AHU’s and Chiller Plant on the roof so that staff and students could enjoy comfortable working conditions during the summer months. There was also extensive use of trench heating throughout the building to compensate for the use of glass panelling on the East and North elevations.

The internal lighting consisted of suspended low energy fluorescent luminaires delivering direct and indirect light. The luminaires were also fitted with daylight linking sensors to modulate lighting levels dependant on the amount of daylight passing through the glazing panels.

The luminaires were operated through a TEBIS lighting management system and the emergency luminaires were fitted with NiMH batteries.

Our site based project manager worked as part of the wider Project Team, dealing proactively with day to day issues as the works progressed, ensuring a good working relationship with the principal contractor and consulting engineers.
