On a design and build basis, we were appointed the M&E Contractor to provide a full mechanical and electrical services package for their prestigious new sustainable head office for Hunter Construction (Aberdeen) Ltd.

A key element of the design brief was the requirement to minimise carbon emissions and energy consumption. After considering various options McGill decided that a biomass boiler combined with solar thermal collectors was the most efficient method of providing heating and hot water to the building.

A containerised plant room housing a 75kW wood pellet fired boiler complete with fuel store was manufactured off site and installed adjacent to the new building. This supplies the buildings heat requirements by burning sustainably sourced wood pellets.

A solar thermal hot water system was installed which will provide over two thirds of the buildings hot water needs during the summer months, using radiation from the sun to heat a hot water cylinder.

McGill Mechanical and Electrical also provided the full range of building services including lighting, power, ventilation, plumbing and security systems.
