Working in partnership with Almond Housing Association (AHA), McGill delivered a programme of energy efficiency improvements to over 175 social housing dwellings in Craigshill, Livingston to address problems associated with ineffective heating and inadequate insulation.

Our in-house surveyors carried out technical surveys and pre-installation EPCs to identify opportunities to make homes more energy efficient.

We removed single immersion hot water cylinders and the existing storage heating system and installed factory insulated dual immersion cylinders and direct acting thermostatically controlled electric radiators in each room with central heating and hot water programmers and room thermostats to give the householders the flexibility and controllability they needed to run their heating and hot water efficiently and effectively.

We insulated lofts to a depth of 300mm and applied soffit linerboard to improve under floor insulation where flats were located directly above garages  To complement the above measures we replaced all household lamps with LED lamps.

The average SAP ratings increased from 66.5 to 71.2 and as a result of our work householders now spend less to keep their homes comfortable and warm.

A fundamental aspect of this contract is to keep tenants fully informed at all stages, working closely with them to ensure they are on the optimum utility tariff to suit the new heating system and their lifestyle as well as giving guidance and instruction on the optimal use of the system.

As the works are undertaken in a habited property our installation teams worked extremely hard to minimise disruption, whilst achieving high levels of tenant satisfaction.
